The key distinction

A TRON USDT transfer uses Bandwidth for transaction data and Energy to run the USDT contract. The 600-point daily free Bandwidth quota can cover some transaction data; it does not provide free Energy. Energy is usually the larger cost. Prices and resource use change, so check the estimate for your exact transfer.

Four ways to lower your cost

  1. Check the full quote

Check the receiving address and full quote before sending.

  2. Compare Energy options

If you send often, compare staking TRX for Energy with reputable Energy delegation or rental; include rental price, duration, minimum order and any TRX burn in the total.

  3. Plan your Bandwidth

Keep the 600 free Bandwidth for simple transfers where possible; an earlier USDT transaction also uses Bandwidth.

  4. Match your transfer frequency

If you only send occasionally, compare the app quote with the current cost of obtaining Energy before buying or locking TRX.

What 600 free Bandwidth can do

A simple TRX transfer typically uses about 260–300 Bandwidth (around 270). With enough free quota left, a transfer to an active address may cost no Bandwidth burn. Once the quota is too low to cover the whole transaction, the network may burn TRX for the full Bandwidth requirement: at the current 0.001 TRX per point, 270 points is about 0.27 TRX. Usage recovers gradually over a rolling 24 hours.

Why USDT costs more than a TRX transfer

A TRC-20 transfer calls a smart contract, so it needs Energy as well as Bandwidth. The current TRON developer guide gives indicative USDT examples of about 64,000 Energy when the recipient already holds USDT and about 130,000 when its USDT balance is zero. At the current burn rate of 0.0001 TRX per Energy, that is roughly 6.4 or 13 TRX if no staked or delegated Energy covers it. Dynamic Energy and contract state can change the result.

Compare typical network costs
Transfer typeApproximate network cost
TRX transfer · free quota covers it0 TRXTo an activated address; no Bandwidth burn.
TRX transfer · free quota insufficient~0.26–0.30 TRX~270 Bandwidth at ~0.001 TRX each.
USDT · recipient already holds USDT~6.4 TRX~64,000 Energy · if no Energy is staked or delegated.
USDT · recipient USDT balance is zero~13 TRX~130,000 Energy · if no Energy is staked or delegated.
Standard activation · new address~1.1 TRXAbout 1 TRX creation fee + possible 0.1 TRX Bandwidth shortfall; transfer costs extra.

Examples use current published Mainnet parameters and typical transactions. Actual Bandwidth, Energy, dynamic surcharge, activation route and app quote can differ.

Free Bandwidth is shared by your transactions

The free allowance belongs to an activated account, not to each transfer. A simple TRX transfer commonly uses about 270 of 600 points. A USDT transfer also uses Bandwidth (the exact amount depends on transaction size and signatures), so sending USDT first can leave too little for a later TRX transfer to fit fully in the free quota. If it does not fit, TRX may be burned for the full Bandwidth requirement.

New addresses and the one-time activation cost

A newly generated TRON address is not yet activated on-chain. Standard activation by sending TRX currently has a 1 TRX account-creation fee. The 600 free Bandwidth cannot pay for it; if the sender lacks enough staked or delegated Bandwidth, the current 0.1 TRX fallback may also apply, making about 1.1 TRX a useful rough estimate before the transfer’s other costs. Contract-based activation follows different rules and may consume more Energy. Check the live quote.

Test safely with free test tokens

TRON’s Shasta and Nile faucets provide test TRX and test USDT for learning. Test tokens have no real-world value and cannot pay Mainnet fees. Use a fresh test wallet, never enter your Mainnet recovery phrase into a faucet, and confirm the wallet and network both say Shasta or Nile. The official TRON guide links to the current faucet pages and community bot.

How TERVO fits in

TERVO is a self-custody Android wallet for USDT on TRON, Ethereum and BNB Smart Chain. It helps you check the network, recipient, amount and the fee option shown for your transfer. Available features and prices can change; always rely on the current confirmation screen. We may run limited fee promotions from time to time, particularly around international holidays. There is no active promotion right now; eligibility, supported network and any platform subsidy will be shown in the app when an offer is available.
